Recorded on June 29, 2022.

The last evening of lectures by winners of the 2022 Architectural League Prize.

The League Prize is an annual competition that has been organized by The Architectural League since 1981. Open to designers ten years or less out of school, it draws entrants from around North America.

In this video, Farzin Lotfi-Jam of Farzin Farzin (Ithaca, NY) and Xavi Laida Aguirre of stock-a-studio (Detroit, MI) discuss projects including:

Farzin Farzin:

  • Media Habitat c. 1975 (Farzin Lotfi-Jam, Felicity D. Scott, Mark Wasiuta), an exhibition that revisits an archive of documentary films produced for a 1976 United Nations conference on human settlement;
  • Modern Management Methods (Caitlin Blanchfield, Farzin Lotfi-Jam), an installation that examines the United Nations Headquarters using documents from the archive and X-rays of the building;
  • Control Syntax Rio (Farzin Lotfi-Jam, Mark Wasiuta), an exhibition that explores the new modes of computational governmentality emerging in Rio de Janeiro’s smart city control systems.

stock-a-studio:

  • someparts, a public-facing catalog of customizable parts for small architecture and furniture design projects;
  • someparts x HIVE RISE, a temporary 20,000-square-foot scenic architecture installation for an immersive live performance;
  • stock, a series of over 600 images of materials that have been purchased and returned from big box stores on a rotating $200 credit.

The presentations are followed by a moderated discussion and Q&A with 2022 Young Architects + Designers Committee member Tei Carpenter. Carpenter is an architectural designer, educator, and founder of Agency—Agency.
