2021 League Board Nominees
Wonne Ickx, Ersela Kripa, Quilian Riano, Sanjive Vaidya, and Sarah Williams are nominated to join the League's Board of Directors in 2021.
Wonne Ickx
Wonne Ickx is a founding partner of Mexico City-based architecture practice Productora. He is also a founder, along with his Productora partners and Ruth Estevez, of Liga-Space for Architecture-Mexico City, an organization and gallery that promotes emerging Latin American architects through exhibitions, conferences and workshops. Productora was a winner of the League Prize for Young Architects and Designers in 2007, and was selected as an Emerging Voice in 2013. The practice won the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize for Emerging Architects in 2016. He has taught in a number of architecture programs, including those at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Harvard, UCLA, and the Universidad Ibero-americana.
Ersela Kripa
Ersela Kripa is a founding partner, with Stephen Mueller, of AGENCY, based in El Paso. Agency has received numerous awards for design work and scholarship, including the 2018 Emerging Voices award from the League, the Rome Prize in Architecture from the American Academy in Rome in 2010, and residency fellowships at the MacDowell Colony in 2009 and 2013. Ersela and Stephen recently published Fronts: Military Urbanism and the Developing World, which excavates and examines a “growing geography of codependence between the global security complex and the urban morphologies of the developing world.” Ersela teaches at Texas Tech El Paso, where she is Acting Director of the Architecture Program.
Quilian Riano
Quilian Riano is an architectural and urban designer, researcher, writer, and educator. He is the founder of DSGN AGNC, a design studio exploring political engagement through architecture, urbanism and art. From 2019 through June 2021, he served as the associate director of the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative (CUDC) at Kent State University. Quilian was lead editor for the report “In the Mahoning Valley” for the League’s American Roundtable project. He is active in Dark Matter University and The Architecture Lobby. Quilian was awarded a Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Design in 2014, has been a Design Trust Fellow, and writes for Places and a number of other design publications.
Sanjive Vaidya
Sanjive Vaidya is chair of the Department of Architectural Technology at the New York City College of Technology (City Tech). Sanjive and his colleague Claudia Hernandez collaborated with the League in the fall of 2018 to create the now flourishing League Mentorship program. He is a passionate advocate for public education in architecture, and for a more open and inclusive profession. In addition to directing the City Tech program, he runs his own practice, where he focuses on the craft of construction and producing high quality work through informed dialogue with contractors and tradespeople.
Sarah Williams
Sarah Williams is Associate Professor of Technology and Urban Planning and Director of the Civic Data Design Lab at MIT’s School of Architecture and Planning. The lab works with data, maps, and mobile technologies to develop interactive design and communication strategies that expose urban policy issues to broader audiences. Sarah is known for her work as part of the Million Dollar Blocks team which highlighted the cost of incarceration, Digital Matatus which developed the first data set on an informal transit system searchable in Google Maps, and a more a recent project that uses social media data to understand housing vacancy and Ghost Cities in China.
