Young Architects 16: Overlay

The 16th in a series of books documenting the work of winners of the Architectural League Prize for Young Architects + Designers

Overlay is the sixteenth in an annual series of publications that feature work by the winners of The Architectural League’s annual competition for young architects and designers. The 2014 competition theme, “Overlay,” explored how contemporary concepts of the term — iterative, conceptual, and notational — “drive discourse, tension between iterations, design solutions, and the parameters by which work is reviewed.” The call for entries asked for work evidencing interpretations of overlay, “from process to presentation to product,” that had the potential to define each firm’s design identity. The projects displayed — from graphic investigation to reimagined structural forms, material experimentation to intrinsic or applied patterns and finishes — examined how the design process might affect program as well as constructed form.

Work by Young & Ayata, The LADG, SIFT Studio, Norman Kelley, Jenny Sabin Studio, and Geoffrey von Oeyen Design.
