G3 Arquitectos
The League Prize, an annual competition that asks young designers to respond to a given theme, has marked an important milestone in many architects’ careers. Winners showcase their work through a lecture series and exhibition.
Juan Alfonso Garduño Jardón was a winner of the 2016 competition.
G3 Arquitectos was founded in 1997 by Juan Alfonso Garduño Jardón in Querétaro, Mexico.
Currently, G3 Arquitectos is working on designing strategies for social participation in a development located in the Altos de San Pablo neighborhood of Querétaro. Past projects include two schools, Kinder Álamos (2011) and the School of Design and Architecture (2013); as well as two private residences, Casa L (2015) and Casa GG (2013), all built in Querétaro. With its Taller Activo initiative, G3 has embarked on an ongoing investigation that “seeks to encourage citizen participation in citymaking by inverting the existing neoliberal model for another one based in the reactivation of the collective realm.” G3 facilitates the design, by students of ITESM Queretaro, of multi-purpose spaces and pavilions constructed in underutilized public spaces across Querétaro which are approved by each respective community.
At the 2016 Venice Biennale of Architecture, Juan Alfonso Garduño Jardón will present Territories of Community Empowerment at the Mexican pavilion. He presented the Taller Activo initiative at the 2014 Quito Architecture Biennial and, with G3 Arquitectos, has won three CEMEX Building Awards for their La Esperanza Community Center, the Kinder Álamos school, and the School of Design and Architecture.
Juan Alfonso Garduño Jardón received his Master of Architecture and Urban Design degree from Harvard University Graduate School of Design (GSD) and his Bachelor in Architecture degree from School of Architecture at ITESM (Monterrey Institute of Technology) Querétaro campus. He has taught at ITESM Queretaro intermittently since 1998 and participated in various conferences including “Conflict and Convergence” at the University of Maryland in 2012. In addition to co-founding G3 Arquitectos, he works as the Strategic Urban Projects Director at the Mobility Secretariat of Querétaro.
