The League’s First Friday events are informal social gatherings that allow members to visit the offices of leading design practices and see work on the boards.

Founded in 2013, Marvel is an architecture, interiors, and landscape architecture firm with a focus in cultural, public space, housing, and higher education design. With offices in New York, New York, Richmond, Virginia, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, Marvel’s interdisciplinary team works across multiple project scales and types, demonstrating a commitment to diversity through community engagement. Building on over 35 years of experience, Marvel’s mission, according to its website, is to create “inspiring spaces that anticipate tomorrow’s challenges while addressing today’s needs.”

Completed projects include: 

Northeast Bronx YMCA  This LEED Gold–certified recreational facility serves as a community campus for youth and families in Community District 12. 

Battery Maritime Building  After a transformative renovation, this historic ferry terminal now hosts a hotel, restaurant, and event space operated by Cipriani S. A.

One Clinton  At the intersection of Downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights, this residential tower houses a branch of the Brooklyn Public Library on its ground floor.

Current and upcoming projects include: 

1 Java  This mixed-use development on the Brooklyn waterfront includes 13,000+ square feet of retail space and 30 percent designated affordable housing units.

Bronx Museum of the Arts  Aiming to unify circulation from the public realm to the interior, this renovation relocates the museum’s entrance and offers an accessible route through all galleries.

DDC Animal Care Center Currently under construction in the Bronx, this new facility will provide animal care, adoption services, and educational programming.
