The League’s monthly After Hours events, formerly called First Fridays, are informal social gatherings that allow members to visit the offices of leading design practices and see work on the boards.

Pentagram is a multi-disciplinary, independently-owned design studio whose works encompass many aspects of design, from identity and strategic positioning to products and packaging. Founded in London in 1972 by architect Theo Crosby, industrial designer Kenneth Grange, and graphic designers Alan Fletcher, Colin Forbes, and Mervyn Kurlansky, the firm is currently led by 24 partners, with offices in New York, London, Berlin, and Austin, Texas. Its unique structure, where partners both lead the work and serve as primary contact for each client, reflects the studio’s belief that great design happens with “passion, intelligence and… personal commitment,” in their own words. With a longstanding relationship, Pentagram’s design can be seen throughout the League’s visual identity, including its logo and the graphics for its annual Beaux Arts Ball

Completed projects include:

The Joslyn Pentagram developed a new strategic and visual framework for the 2024 expansion of the Omaha, Nebraska-based art museum, centered around a new moniker, “The Joslyn,” set in custom typefaces designed by Eddie Opara’s team.

Penn Station West End Concourse The first phase of redevelopment of the West End Concourse at New York’s Pennsylvania Station features large-scale environmental graphics and wayfinding created by Michael Gericke’s team.

Google 237 MPD The Pentagram-designed signage program for the headquarters of Google Cloud in Google’s Sunnyvale, California campus, features reused wood and decarbonized paint, and was completed using local fabricators.

Current projects include the Obama Presidential Center. A team led by Michael Bierut designed the typography and exterior signage for the 19.3-acre campus in Chicago, including lettering details that wrap around the museum tower.
