Beaux Arts Ball 2024: HEAT affirmed and celebrated our commitment to the built environment’s critical transformation in service of more just and caring planetary coexistence, making the most of the pressures that only HEAT can provide.
On September 20, 2024, we gathered in the Turbine Hall of Powerhouse Arts (PHA), formerly the coal-powered Brooklyn Rapid Transit Power Station, completed in 1904 to serve the borough’s expanding transit system. In alignment with PHA’s mission as well as the League’s—to support creative expression in arts and design—the space was transformed by an original commissioned installation in dialogue with the 2024 theme by Brooklyn-based artist Olalekan Jeyifous.
A note on Rising Heat, the Beaux Arts Ball 2024 installation.
“This installation engages the audience with the reality that climate change does not affect everyone equally. It disproportionately impacts those who are already vulnerable, amplifying existing social and economic inequities. The “Urban Heat Island” effect is not just a meteorological consequence—it is a profound climate justice issue.” —Olalekan Jeyifous
