On May 25, 2023, the Architectural League held a public celebration for 2023 President’s Medal honoree Rosalie Genevro. The President’s Medal is The Architectural League’s highest honor and is bestowed, at the discretion of the League’s President and Board of Directors, on individuals to recognize extraordinary achievements in architecture, urbanism, art, design, and the environment.
The open air celebration took place on Crosby Street between Jersey and Prince Streets, in Soho, Manhattan. It included a participatory installation by Greg Corbino; a drumline by Fogo Azul; chats with climate scientists Klaus Jacob (Columbia University) Bernice Rosenzweig (Sarah Lawrence College) and Eric W. Sanderson (New York Botanical Garden); food and beverages from the Street Vendor Project; furniture by Street Lab; and remarks by Greg Corbino, Mario Gooden, the League’s president, and Rosalie Genevro.
In honor of Rosalie’s commitment to conversations on the built environment’s relationship to climate change, the event sought to inspire visions for a circular future.
“To survive, we must close the circle. We must learn how to restore to nature the wealth we borrow from it.” —Barry Commoner
