The Architectural League’s annual Emerging Voices program spotlights North American architects, landscape architects, and urban designers who have significant bodies of realized work and the potential to influence their field.

Davidson Rafailidis won a 2018 award.

Stephanie Davidson and Georg Rafailidis have collaborated as Davidson Rafailidis since 2008. They live and work in upstate New York.

Davidson grew up in rural Ontario. She earned a degree in fine arts from Mount Allison University, a Canadian liberal arts school, then studied architecture at Halifax’s Dalhousie University and London’s Architectural Association. She has worked for German firms sauerbuch hutton and Gonzalez Haase as well as Canada’s Provencher Roy.

Rafailidis, a native of Bavaria, holds degrees from the University of Applied Sciences in Munich and the Architectural Association. He previously worked for Herzog & de Meuron.

Both are members of the architecture faculty at the University of Buffalo. They have also taught at the RWTH Aachen University in Germany and the University of Toronto.

Recent projects include:

  • He, She, & It, a structure with three distinct workspaces for a Buffalo couple
  • Tipico Coffee (Café Fargo), a coffee shop in a former corner store in Buffalo
  • Mirror, Mirror, the winner of a competition aimed at reimagining the street festival tent.
