League Prize 2015: Authenticity
Besler & Sons
Los Angeles, CA
Erin Besler founded Los Angeles, California-based Besler & Sons in 2014. Her work, in her own words, “references and reuses things that are already in circulation,” which she then seeks to “refit into a slightly different framework.” Besler has described her work as operating “between multiple sites of production” — in both educational and professional contexts.
Her work was part of Chatter: Architecture Talk Back, an exhibition curated by Karen Kice at the Art Institute of Chicago, which closed in July 2015; and Along the Resolution Frontier, three video works created with Ian Besler at the International Symposium on Electronic Art in Vancouver, through August 2015. Past projects include Roof Deck, a finalist proposal for the Young Architects Program at MoMA PS1 in New York, and The Entire Situation, a series of architectural mockups of walls at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture Mackey Gallery in Los Angeles.
Erin Besler was a recipient of the AIA Henry Adams Medal and a Thesis Award for her project Low Fidelity. She was also a Teaching Fellow in the Architecture and Urban Design department at UCLA from 2013-2014.
Besler earned a B.A. in Architecture from Yale University in 2004 and a M.Arch with Distinction from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in 2012. She is a faculty member at the University of California Los Angeles in the Department of Architecture and Urban Design.
