The Architectural League’s annual Emerging Voices program spotlights North American architects, landscape architects, and urban designers who have significant bodies of realized work and the potential to influence their field.
UUfie won a 2019 award.
Irene Gardpoit and Eiri Ota founded UUfie in Tokyo in 2009. They relocated to Toronto in 2013.
The firm’s output includes architecture, industrial design, art, and landscape design. The partners write: “Our work aims to make architecture a sensory and visceral experience, an interactive process that engages people in fluid interplays and unique juxtapositions of architecture and landscape.”

Irene Gardpoit earned a BArch from the University of Toronto.
Eiri Ota earned a BArch from Musashino Art University in Japan. He teaches at the University of Toronto.
UUfie has received Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard award, the American Architecture Prize, the A&D Trophy, the Ontario Association of Architects Design Excellence Award, and Interior Design’s Project of the Year award.
