The Architectural League’s annual Emerging Voices program spotlights North American architects, landscape architects, and urban designers who have significant bodies of realized work and the potential to influence their field.

Luis Aldrete won a 2018 award.

Aldrete was born in Guadalajara and educated in Mexico and Spain. Since establishing his firm in 2007, he has designed residential, hospitality, and cultural facilities including:

  • Pilgrim Route Shelters. As part of a team of internationally renowned artists and designers including Ai Wei Wei and Elemental, Aldrete created infrastructure to support the millions of people who make a 72-mile pilgrimage in Jalisco, Mexico, each year on foot
  • BF Residence, a Guadalajara house whose program nods to the traditional Mexican hacienda
  • Rincondada Margaritas Residential Complex, a high-rise development in Guadalajara that responds sensitively to an adjacent ravine.

Aldrete has taught in Mexico, Spain, and the United States. His work has been shown at the Venice Biennale, Mexico City’s LIGA, and numerous other venues.
