Snøhetta
Join us for a First Friday event at Snøhetta.
October 4, 2019
6:30 p.m.
The League’s monthly First Friday events are informal social gatherings that allow members to visit the offices of leading design practices and see work on the boards.
Established in 1989 with the competition-winning entry for the new library of Alexandria, Egypt, Snøhetta is an architecture, landscape, interior, product, and graphic design firm with offices in seven countries. According to the firm, its work “strives to enhance our sense of place, identity, and relationship to others and the physical spaces we inhabit, whether natural or human-made.”
Recent and upcoming projects include:
- Calgary Central Library, a new main branch for the city’s public library system. The building doubles as a portal and a bridge as a response to its site at the crossing of a light rail transit line dividing Downtown and East Village. Designed in collaboration with DIALOG.
- HouseZero, a pre-1940s building retrofitted into an energy-positive prototype for ultra-efficiency, designed in collaboration with the Harvard Center for Green Buildings and Cities at the GSD. It includes nearly zero energy for heating and cooling, zero electric lighting during the day, 100 percent natural ventilation, and zero carbon emissions.
- Far Rockaway Library, a new building that doubles the area of the existing Queens public library branch, providing more services and serving as a catalyst for community transformation.
