The League’s monthly First Friday events are informal social gatherings that allow members to visit the offices of leading design practices and see work on the boards.

Local Projects is a multidisciplinary studio that takes an integrated approach to media and exhibition design, with a focus on visitor experience. According to the studio, it “design(s) with intention to create meaning and provoke emotion, utilizing the medium that makes practical sense for the environment.” With a team of over 60 designers, interaction and visual designers, and creative technologists, Local Projects creates permanent and temporary experiences for museums, public spaces, and other domains across the public and private sector.

Recent and ongoing projects include:

  • ZERO for Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, a transformation of Frank Gehry’s museum lobby which provides visitors with insights into the urban history of Bilbao, Spain.
  • The Legacy Museum for the Equal Justice Initiative, a museum in Montgomery, Alabama, dedicated to the history of racial inequality in the United States, from slavery to mass incarceration.
  • Planet Word, a transformation of the landmark Franklin School in Washington, DC, into an interactive museum exploring the profound influence of words on the human experience.
