Folly is a co-sponsored project by Socrates Sculpture Park and The Architectural League.

The Architectural League and Socrates Sculpture Park invite you to the opening of Austin + Mergold’s new installation SuralArk, the 2014 winner of Folly.

Folly is an annual competition co-sponsored by the League and Socrates, which invites emerging architects and designers to propose contemporary interpretations of the architectural folly, traditionally a fanciful, small-scale building or pavilion sited in a garden or landscape to frame a view or serve as conversation piece. Folly was established by Socrates, in partnership with the League, to explore the intersections between architecture and sculpture and the increasing overlaps in references, materials, and building techniques between the two disciplines.

Also opening at Socrates Sculpture Park on the 11^th are Scarecrow, a site-specific installation by Žilvinas Kempinas; Queen Mother of Reality, a collaborative installation by Paweł Althamer; and Citoyen Du Monde, a Broadway Billboard by Meschac Gaba.

Folly 2014 was made possible by a generous grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts. The Exhibition Program at Socrates Sculpture Park is supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, Charina Endowment Fund, Cowles Charitable Trust, Lambent Foundation, Mark di Suvero, the Sidney E.
