1.5 AIA and New York State CEUs

The first evening of the annual Emerging Voices lecture series, featuring graciastudio and SO – IL. Emerging Voices spotlights individuals and firms based in the United States, Canada, or Mexico with distinct design voices and the potential to influence the disciplines of architecture, landscape design, and urbanism.

graciastudio designs buildings reflective of regional labor, materials, and markets, particularly as they influence construction. Recently focused on prefabricated architecture, the studio led by Jorge Gracia with offices in San Diego and Tijuana sees economic constraints as an opportunity for architects to exploit and develop creativity and inventiveness. SO – IL, the office of Florian Idenburg and Jing Liu, uses abstraction to digest the contextual and programmatic needs of a project, producing a refined response to site and function developed from iterative studies of form and information that “clarify the essence of an idea.” For more on the New York-based office, click here.

Moderator Thomas de Monchaux is a journalist and trained architect whose articles have appeared in Architectural Record, Metropolis and The Wall Street Journal among other publications. He served on this year’s Emerging Voices jury.
