After Hours: Arup
For the final in-person studio visit of the season, League members are invited to tour the global built environment consultancy’s New York office.

The League’s monthly After Hours events, formerly called First Fridays, are informal social gatherings that allow members to visit the offices of leading design practices and see work on the boards.
Arup is a global built environment consultancy that provides technical and strategic services and expertise to support long-term planning and complex design projects. Founded by Sir Ove Arup in 1946 in London, United Kingdom, the firm has 98 offices and more than 17,000 employees worldwide. With a portfolio spanning over 130 countries, Arup works with governments, international institutions, private developers, and architects to navigate complex projects from planning to construction, including metro systems and concert halls, water utilities and offshore wind farms, as well as major infrastructure upgrades and strategies to advance net-zero carbon ambitions. Leveraging its knowledge in sustainable development, the firm publishes extensively on climate resilience, clean energy, and equitable futures.

Little Island Arup engineers worked closely with Heatherwick Studio to provide structural and civil engineering services and visual and acoustic design for the floating multimedia park and entertainment venue on the Hudson River.
The New Museum of Contemporary Art Expansion From schematic design through construction administration, the firm delivered structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for the expansion of the museum on the Bowery.
MTA Enhanced Station Initiative In collaboration with the New York City Transit Authority, Arup managed the modernization of 22 New York City subway stations, including managing eight design-build contracts and developing a digital project management platform.
Current projects include:
JFK New Terminal One Art, Branding, and Digital Experience Program The firm is working with a team of designers and curators to develop an integrated art, branding, and digital experience program that will create a “distinctly New York atmosphere” for the new terminal, in the firms own words.
Liberty State Park and The Greenway In support of the Liberty State Park Revitalization Program and The Greenway, two public space initiatives in New Jersey, Arup is providing master planning, design, and engineering services to expand access to parks and recreation while advancing climate resilience efforts.
Brooklyn Army Terminal In collaboration with the New York City Economic Development Corporation, Arup is managing a portfolio of more than ten adaptive reuse projects across the historic waterfront campus that will transform aging facilities through modernization, infrastructure upgrades, and digital systems integration.
