The Architectural League’s annual Emerging Voices program spotlights North American architects, landscape architects, and urban designers who have significant bodies of realized work and the potential to influence their field.

SCAPE / Landscape Architecture won a 2012 award.

SCAPE / Landscape Architecture is a dynamic, leading-edge landscape architecture and urban design studio based in New York City. They are committed to the innovative, creative design and construction of the joint urban-natural environment. Their goal is to create and organize dialogue about the built environment, to refine the definition of the public sector to include natural processes and wildlife habitat, and to cultivate an ethos of civic participation. Within this expanded mandate, their ‘design output’ takes many forms: research, teaching, writing, built landscapes, websites, maps, documentations, and temporary installations.

Nature is a design issue in the Anthropocene era. It is increasingly difficult to talk about landscape architecture outside the expanded context of the ‘environment.’ SCAPE approaches the ‘big questions’ through each built and conceptual work, expanding discourse in the design disciplines to overlap with the environmental sciences and the public realm.
