FF – Distance Edition: Ken Smith Workshop
The New York City firm opens its doors for a virtual studio visit and project tour.
The League’s FF – Distance Edition events are informal online studio visits offering a behind-the-scenes look at leading design practices.
In this video, Ken Smith, founder and principal of New York City-based Ken Smith Workshop, and team members give a guided studio tour and present completed and ongoing projects that showcase the firm’s process as well as its final product: the Meatpacking District, the permanent redesign of a historic Manhattan thoroughfare, and St. Pete Pier, a twelve-acre pedestrian-oriented pier in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The presentation is followed by a conversation in the office with Maria Bellalta, dean of landscape architecture at Boston Architectural College. Bellalta and Smith discussed the agency of landscape architecture in New York and America, Ken’s artistic influences, from minimalism to pop art, and what’s coming next for the landscape firm.
