The League’s monthly First Friday events are informal social gatherings that allow members to visit the offices of leading design practices and see work on the boards.

WXY was founded in 1998 by Claire Weisz and Mark Yoes, who now lead the firm together with Layng Pew and Adam Lubinsky. The New York-based multidisciplinary practice includes architecture, planning, engineering, and landscape architecture, as well as urban, graphic, and industrial design. Working in all scales and with the environment and community in mind, WXY “has been recognized for its dedication to engaging, improving, and honoring public space,” according to the firm.

Recent and ongoing projects include:

  • The Peninsula, a mixed-use development that will bring affordable housing, as well as recreational, commercial, and light industrial space, to the South Bronx.
  • D15 Diversity Plan, commissioned by the New York City Department of Education. This outreach process was designed to address school segregation in middle schools in Brooklyn’s District 15.
  • Brooklyn Army Terminal, which reorganized the 97-acre campus to create dedicated pedestrian spaces, custom-made furniture, and a new graphic identity, reconnecting the neighborhood to the waterfront.
  • Rockaway Boardwalks Reconstruction, a project aiming to rebuild and improve public spaces in the Queens peninsula in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
