League Prize winner
Jennifer Bonner of MALL
The League Prize is an annual competition that has been organized by The Architectural League since 1981. Open to designers ten years or less out of school, it draws entrants from around North America.
Jennifer Bonner of MALL won a 2019 award.
Jennifer Bonner founded MALL in Atlanta in 2009 and, more recently, the firm has expanded to Boston. Its mission states the firm’s commitment to “projects that re-appropriate history, hack typologies, reference cultural events, and invent representation.” MALL’s work includes research, installations, publications, and residential projects.
Recent projects include:
- Haus Gables, a single-family residence in Atlanta that draws from a study of the formal vocabulary of suburban homes, including faux finishes and roof gables.
- Domestic Hats, an exploration of roof typologies that reconsiders the role of the massing model in architectural representation.
- A Guide to the Dirty South: Atlanta, a guidebook of the city combining hip hop history with a catalog of architectural typologies.
MALL’s work was exhibited at the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial, Yale Architecture Gallery, Rhode Island School of Design Architecture Gallery, among others.
Bonner received a BArch from Auburn University’s College of Architecture and an MArch from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. She is currently an assistant professor of architecture and director of the Master in Architecture II Program at Harvard GSD.
