The Architectural League’s annual Emerging Voices program spotlights North American architects, landscape architects, and urban designers who have significant bodies of realized work and the potential to influence their field.
SCHAUM/SHIEH won a 2019 award.
Founded in 2009 by Troy Schaum and Rosalyne Shieh, SCHAUM/SHIEH is based in Houston and New York City.
The firm’s origins lie in the partners’ desire to explore the links between art, form, and urbanism. They write: “The practice has a particular interest in the city at the scale of the building, both as a site of theoretical experimentation and as a reality that may be transformed through building.”

Troy Schaum received his MArch from Princeton and his BArch from Virginia Tech. He is currently an associate professor at the Rice School of Architecture.
Rosalyne Shieh studied at Berkeley, the Bartlett, and Princeton. She has taught at the Yale School of Architecture, The Cooper Union, Syracuse University, and the University of Michigan, where she was the 2009–2010 Taubman Fellow in Architecture.
The firm’s work has been exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale; ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan; and the Storefront for Art and Architecture and Center for Architecture in New York.
