The League’s First Fridays are monthly opportunities for League members to visit the offices of leading design practices to see work on the boards and learn more about the offices’ organization and design processes. These informal social gatherings feature brief office tours and presentations along with happy hour drinks arranged by the host office.

Leong Leong

Founded by brothers Dominic and Chris Leong in 2009, Leong Leong envisions “new relationships between culture and commerce, public and private, and the domestic and monumental.” With offices in New York and Los Angeles, the firm designs buildings, interiors, exhibitions, and furniture.

Leong Leong has completed projects in New York, Los Angeles, Napa Valley, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Venice, including the City View Garage in Miami; the 3.1 Philip Lim flagship in Seoul; the U.S. Pavilion for the 14^th Venice Architecture Biennale; and a workspace for Triple Canopy in New York. Current projects include the Center for Community and Entrepreneurship in Queens, New York; the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Anita May Rosenstein Campus in Hollywood, California (in association with Killefer Flammang Architects); a mixed-use development Block Garden in Yangon, Myanmar; and an exhibition design for the Bass Museum in Miami. In 2017, Leong Leong was named an Emerging Voice by The Architectural League.

Wkshps

Directed by Chris Wu & Prem Krishnamurthy, Wkshps is a multidisciplinary design workshop that crafts identities for art institutions, public spaces, non-profits, and global brands alike. With unparalleled expertise across contemporary art, architecture, and beyond, this new initiative helps commercial and cultural organizations understand themselves through graphic design. Wkshps follows Project Projects (2004–2017), recipient of the Cooper Hewitt’s National Design Award for Communication Design.

MTWTF

MTWTF is a design studio that creates communication platforms for cultural, commercial, educational, and civic clients. MTWTF was founded by Glen Cummings in 2008, and Sarah Dunham joined the studio in 2014. The studio “situates itself within the broadest discipline of design — the shaping of our shared physical and electronic environment — and creates communication tools that foster discussion and facilitate change.”

Recent projects include the 2017 Utopia – Dystopia exhibition at A/D/O; LOT-EK’s monograph Objects + Operations published by The Monacelli Press in 2017; the 2017 Scaffolding exhibition at the Center for Architecture; the monograph/manifesto Toward an Urban Ecology by Kate Orff from landscape architecture firm SCAPE, published by The Monacelli Press in 2016; and the 2017 campaign The Cube Turns 50 for Astor Place’s cube by Tony Rosenthal.
