The League’s First Fridays are monthly opportunities for League members to visit the offices of leading design practices to see work on the boards and learn more about the offices’ organization and design processes. These informal social gatherings feature brief office tours and presentations along with happy hour drinks arranged by the host office.
In 1991, John Ike, Thomas Kligerman, and Joel Barkley founded Ike Kligerman Barkley. Operating from offices in New York and San Francisco, the firm uses both traditional handicraft and more contemporary processes “to enhance life through good design” in their work on residential and commercial architecture and interiors. Their designs are first imagined in impressionistic watercolors and then communicated through sketches before becoming digitally rendered.
In each of their projects, Ike Kligerman Barkley refines vernacular styles with material integrity and personalized details. A recent residential project in New Jersey combines a Shingle Style roof with an English Cottage buttress system which inspired its whimsical name, the Shinglish Country House. Recent projects include the Lookout House in Fairfield County, Connecticut; the Art Barn residence in upstate New York; and the Ramble Living Well Center, which received an AIA New York Chapter Design Award. Ike Kligerman Barkley has also received the Decoration and Design Building Stars of Design Award, the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art (ICAA) Julia Morgan Award, and the ICAA Stanford White Award.
