The President’s Medal is The Architectural League’s highest honor and is bestowed, at the discretion of the League’s President and Board of Directors, on individuals to recognize extraordinary achievements in architecture, urbanism, art, design, and the environment.
On May 23, 2023, League President Mario Gooden presented the President’s Medal to executive director Rosalie Genevro in recognition of her 38 years of service. The presentation took place at a gala dinner held at The Metropolitan Club in Manhattan.
Along with Gooden, Michael Bierut, Pentagram partner; Annabelle Selldorf, principal of Selldorf Architects; Billie Tsien, principal of Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects; Paul Lewis, principal of LTL Architects; and Quilian Riano, dean of Pratt Institute’s School of Architecture, celebrated Genevro with remarks.
On May 25, League members, neighbors, and friends gathered at an open-air celebration on Crosby Street in Soho for the President’s Medal Block Party. The Block Party included a participatory installation by Greg Corbino; a drumline by Fogo Azul; chats with climate scientists Klaus Jacob (Columbia University), Bernice Rosenzweig (Sarah Lawrence College), and Eric W. Sanderson (New York Botanical Garden); food and beverages from the Street Vendor Project; and furniture by Street Lab—a reflection of Genevro’s commitment to informing and inspiring action on the built environment’s relationship to climate change. Remarks were given by Corbino, Genevro, and Gooden.
