Managing Director

The Architectural League, the country’s premier cultural institution presenting important work and ideas in contemporary architecture and urbanism, seeks a managing director to join its senior staff. The League is a nimble, productive organization with a supportive board, motivated staff, and engaged community. The managing director plays a crucial role in ensuring the League’s impact and effectiveness, with primary responsibilities for member and donor relations, development, two major fundraising events, administrative and financial management, and human resources. More broadly, the managing director works with colleagues to ensure League activities align with the organization’s ethos and mission, to nurture excellence in architecture and urbanism and stimulate thinking, debate and action on the critical design and building issues of our times.

The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to fostering the important role of cultural institutions in society; will have the capacity for both expansive thinking and close attention to detail; will be self-directed; and will enjoy working with others. A strong background in not-for-profit or academic management, the disciplines/professions of architecture and urbanism, OR development activities at cultural institutions is required. The managing director reports to the executive director of the League, and has extensive contact with the board of directors.
