CORONASHAXX captures the explosion of outdoor dining and activity spaces across New York City.

Shifting Ground was an open call for visual reports about how the events of 2020 and 2021 reconfigured our relationship with both public and private space. Select entries were posted on the League’s Instagram account.

The organizers wrote:

CORONASHAXX was founded in Manhattan’s West Village the evening of October 22, 2020, after a few hours of drinking and walking (two activities which, prior to The Pandemic, were, if anyone can remember, illegal to undertake outdoors simultaneously in NYC). Fascinated, inspired, and, sure, just a little worried by the pseudo-informal structures appearing in former parking spaces and on sidewalks, it was clear that something was emerging that had to be documented: not only a new building type, but more importantly, a new, far looser and more-adaptive attitude toward building in NYC. Wouldn’t this make a great exhibition + book one day? CORONASHAXX thinks so … but in the meantime, there’s a lot more pics to take. SEND US YOUR SHAXX!!!!⠀
