First Friday
James Corner Field Operations

Join James Corner Field Operations at its office for drinks, conversation, and a behind the scenes look at their ongoing work. The League’s First Fridays are monthly opportunities for League members to visit the offices of leading design practices to see work on the boards and learn more about the offices’ organization and design processes. These informal social gatherings feature brief office tours and presentations along with happy hour drinks arranged by the host office.

Founded by James Corner, Field Operations is a landscape architecture and urban design practice based in New York City. It is committed to designing “a vibrant and dynamic public realm, informed by the ecology of both people and nature.” Their ethic is reflected in diverse projects ranging from large urban districts and post-industrial sites to mixed-use developments and small, intimate gardens.

Major projects in New York City include the High Line; South Street Seaport; Domino Sugar Factory Waterfront in Brooklyn; and Freshkills Park on Staten Island. Other projects include Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road; Chicago’s newly redesigned Navy Pier; Cleveland’s Public Square; and Seattle’s Central Waterfront.

Field Operations’ work has received multiple awards from the ASLA, the AIA, the ULI, the BALI Awards, Architizer, and the APA; as well as the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum 2010 National Design Award, the New York City Arts Commission Award for Excellence in Design, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award for Design.
