First Friday
Sawyer | Berson

Join Sawyer | Berson at its office for drinks, conversation, and a behind the scenes look at their ongoing work. The League’s First Fridays are monthly opportunities for League members to visit the offices of leading design practices to see work on the boards and learn more about the offices’ organization and design processes. These informal social gatherings feature brief office tours and presentations along with happy hour drinks arranged by the host office.

New York City-based Sawyer | Berson was founded in 1999 by Brian Sawyer and John Berson with a focus on residential, commercial, and landscape architecture, as well as interior design. The firm “seeks to achieve unique designs in traditional and modern vocabularies.” Sawyer | Berson’s work includes private houses and gardens, apartments, townhouses, and urban roof terraces as well as commercial and institutional projects throughout the United States.

In New York, the firm designed the Vera Wang Boutique at Madison Avenue; a roof terrace atop a penthouse loft in Chelsea; and interiors and garden at 11 North Moore Street. Other works include the Sydney & Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden for the New Orleans Museum of Art (in collaboration with Lee Ledbetter Architects) and a series of houses in Bridgehampton, New York. The firm has received the 2016 ASLA Honor Award and several Stanford White Awards from the New York Chapter of The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art. Brian Sawyer received the 2016 Thomas N. Armstrong III Award in Landscape Design from the New York School of Interior Design.

Please note policy change: League First Fridays have been a huge success!  So much so, in fact, that, we have adjusted our admission policy. Up to now, we have allowed any League member to also reserve a spot for a guest at First Fridays. As many of you know, these events sell out very fast, so we are changing our policy to allow only League members to reserve, to make sure that as many League members as possible can attend this popular series.
