First Friday
Studio Libeskind

Join Studio Libeskind at its office for drinks, conversation, and a behind the scenes look at their ongoing work. The League’s First Fridays are monthly opportunities for League members to visit the offices of leading design practices to see work on the boards and learn more about the offices’ organization and design processes. These informal social gatherings feature brief office tours and presentations along with happy hour drinks arranged by the host office.

In 1989, Daniel and Nina Libeskind founded Studio Libeskind in Berlin. Currently based in New York and Zurich, the firm designs a range of building types, from large-scale master plans and cultural buildings to mixed-use towers. Studio Libeskind believes that “great architecture is more than the sum of its parts: It is a language that communicates a story and invigorates the context and community for which it is built.”

The firm is currently involved in projects in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. In addition to the 16-acre World Trade Center redevelopment master plan in New York, projects under construction include the National Holocaust Monument in Ottawa, Canada; the CityLife master plan in Milan (in conjunction with Zaha Hadid Architects and Arata Isozaki & Associates); and the Zhang Zhidong and Modern Industrial Museum in Wuhan, China. Recently built projects include the residential skyscraper Zlota 44 in Warsaw; the Ogden Center for Fundamental Physics at Durham University in the United Kingdom; the Vitra residential tower in São Paulo; and Reflections at Keppel Bay, a residential high-rise complex in Singapore. Studio Libeskind received the 2012 AIA National Service Medal for its work on the World Trade Center redevelopment and the BCA Green Mark Gold Award in 2009 for Reflections at Keppel Bay, among other awards.

Please note policy change: League First Fridays have been a huge success!  So much so, in fact, that, we have adjusted our admission policy. Up to now, we have allowed any League member to also reserve a spot for a guest at First Fridays. As many of you know, these events sell out very fast, so we are changing our policy to allow only League members to reserve, to make sure that as many League members as possible can attend this popular series.
