First Friday
Langan

Join Langan at its office for drinks, conversation, and a behind the scenes look at their ongoing work. First Fridays are monthly opportunities for League members to visit the offices of leading design practices to see work on the boards and learn more about the offices’ organization and design processes. These informal social gatherings feature brief office tours and presentations along with happy hour drinks arranged by the host office.

Since its founding in 1970 as a geotechnical specialty firm, Langan has expanded internationally to provide a wide variety of civil engineering and environmental services. The firm’s areas of expertise include site engineering, seismic assessment and earthquake preparedness, demolition, traffic and transportation planning, among many others. Langan works at a variety of scales, addressing challenges in both natural and built environments for projects as diverse as international airports and stadiums, energy and power transmission facilities, primary schools. Recent projects include seismic strengthening and renovation of historic Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco, landscape architecture and planning for the U.S. Embassy in Panama, and geotechnical services for the Crescent City Inner Harbor rehabilitation project – which received a 2016 ACEC California Engineering Excellence Award. The firm is currently working on site, civil, and transportation engineering services to Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, which, when built, will be the world’s tallest building. In 2016, Langan received two Engineering Excellence Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies for their work on Hudson Park and Boulevard and the September 11 Memorial & Museum Slurry Wall.
