Join Workshop/APD at their office for drinks, informal conversation, and a behind-the-scenes look at recent and upcoming projects. This program is part of First Friday, a monthly opportunity for League members to visit the offices of leading design practices to see work on the boards and learn more about the offices’ organization and design processes. These informal social gatherings feature happy hour drinks arranged by the host office.
Since Workshop/APD’s founding in 1999, the firm has built a roster of work that runs the gamut from urban lofts to family homes, high-end multi-family developments to restaurants, and inventive affordable housing for Hurricane Katrina victims. The firm finds productive challenges in incorporating environmentally sustainable solutions into their designs as they gain recognition for their work in hospitality and move into more civic projects.
Workshop/APD’s residential portfolio includes homes in the Hudson River Valley and the Hamptons, among many other locations. Their urban residential projects include a penthouse apartment in Jean Nouvel’s westside tower and a single-family townhouse on New York’s Upper West Side with a distinctive slatted wood facade. Their appreciation of craft and hospitality can be seen in recent furniture and product design collaborations for furniture company Uhuru and Italian kitchen company Aster Cucine. Recently, Workshop/APD collaborated with Beyer Blinder Belle on BLDG 92, an exhibition, visitors, and employment center in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
