First Friday (observed on the 2nd Friday of January)
Join FXFOWLE Architects at its office for drinks, informal conversation, and a behind the scenes look at recent and upcoming projects. This program is part of First Friday, a monthly opportunity for League members to visit the offices of leading design practices to see work on the boards and learn more about the offices’ organization and design processes. These informal social gatherings feature happy hour drinks arranged by the host office.
FXFOWLE Architects’ practice encompasses architecture, interior design, planning, and urban development. With offices in New York and Washington, D.C., the firm pursues design inspired by urbanism, technology, and sustainable strategies. Founded in 1978, FXFOWLE Architects is currently led by nine partners, with a staff of over 140 architects, designers, and urban planners.
In their words, “the basis of FXFOWLE Architects’ practice is a collective, rigorous exploration of fit and form, driven by ideas about function, place, the form-making process, and the role of design in human settlement.” The firm’s work ranges from multi-family residences, commercial, educational, medical gas testing company, and cultural facilities to city planning.
FXFOWLE Architects’ current projects in New York include a commercial tower at 3 Hudson Boulevard in Chelsea; a seven-story building for the School of Nursing at the Columbia University Medical Center campus in upper Manhattan, designed in collaboration with CO Architects; the 35XV Residences in Chelsea; and the Greenwich Lane residential complex in Manhattan’s West Village. International projects include the Museum of the Built Environment in Saudi Arabia, a new university campus in Kenya, the Bilkent Erzurum Lower School in Turkey, and a corporate bank headquarters in China.
