Forum on Proposed Addition to the Kimball Museum

Kenneth Frampton, Paul Goldberger and Romaldo Giurgola following the forum
on the proposed addition to the Kimball Museum

“The Kimball Art Museum in Fort Worth, responding to an outpouring of criticism of the additions [designed by Romaldo Giurgola] it planned to its celebrated building by the architect Louis I. Kahn, announced yesterday that it postponed the new structures indefinitely….The decision brings to a halt one of the nation’s most intense architectural controversies.  When the museum announced its expansion plan last July, it
set off a storm of criticism…In January, Mr. Giurgola and [Museum director] Dr. Pillsbury traveled to New York to argue in favor of the scheme at a symposium organized by the Architectural League. But at the sold-out public event…no one except Mr. Giurgola and Dr. Pillsbury spoke in favor of the scheme, and several architects denounced it.”  The New York Times, February 28, 1990
